The seminar will provide insights on how Action Design Research (ADR) projects are carried out in practice. ADR emphasizes authentic collaboration with organizational partners through iterative `building-intervention-evaluation´ loops. Drawing from actual ADR experiences, Professor Purao will share good practices for managing the relationship with organizational partners and lessons learnt for avoiding common pitfalls and applying the method effectively.
Sandeep Purao is a Trustee Professor in the Information & Process Management Group at Bentley University; and Visiting Professor at Agder University. His current research focuses on the design and management of technology solutions for complex societal problems such as health information for the elderly, data analytics to improve homelessness, and misinformation processes. He is the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Design Science Research community. His research has received funding from National Science Foundation, Industry Consortia, private Foundations, as well as private Corporations. The outcomes from his work appear in journals such as ACM Transactions, Communications of the ACM, IEEE Transactions, ACM Computing Surveys,MIS Quarterly, Information Systems Research, Journal of the Medical Informatics Association, Computer-supported Cooperative Work, Decision Support Systems, Big Data Research, Information Systems Journal, Journal of MIS; and others. He has served on editorial boards for journals such as Information Systems Research, MIS Quarterlyand Journal of the AISamong others; and has held leadership roles in several conferences. He has designed and taught undergraduate, masters, professional masters, executive education, and doctoral courses with IT management and innovation, process management, value chain design, enterprise systems, databases, systems design, and research methods. He holds a PhD in Management Science from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee; Masters in Business Administration from Northern Illinois University; Bachelor of Commerce and Law degrees from University of Bombay, and has been a Chartered Accountant in India.
